The Small Joys of Spring Cleaning: How I Finally Tackled My Bathroom Drawers

One of my favorite parts of this season is the ritual of spring cleaning. Don’t get me wrong—I could happily skip the endless dishes, laundry piles, and daily messes that seem to multiply no matter how hard we try. But there’s something deeply satisfying about a real clean. The kind that goes beyond surface tidying and gives your home that fresh, open feeling. For me, spring cleaning feels like pressing a reset button before summer.

Instead of diving in all at once, we usually chip away at it bit by bit, room by room. Sometimes it’s as small as tackling a neglected corner or drawer, other times it’s an entire space. And honestly, it’s those small victories that feel the most rewarding.

The Drawer Situation

For weeks—okay, months—I had been avoiding my bathroom drawers. Every time I opened them, I was greeted by the same jumble of clutter: half-used skincare bottles, expired makeup, hair ties tangled with bobby pins, and travel-sized products I kept saving “just in case.” Each drawer was its own little disaster zone.

The funny thing is, I knew it was a mess. Every time I slid one open, I told myself I should really deal with it. But instead of actually fixing the problem, I just shoved more things in. Out of sight, out of mind—or at least until the next morning when I needed to dig through the chaos for toothpaste.

The truth is, clutter carries more weight than we give it credit for. Those messy drawers weren’t just disorganized; they were haunting me, nagging at me every single day.

The Breaking Point

After weeks of being home sick (which, let’s be honest, also meant way too much time staring at those drawers), I finally hit my breaking point. I couldn’t stand it anymore. The clutter had to go.

So I did what anyone in my position would do: I made a Target run. Armed with a few inexpensive organizing bins, I came home ready to face the mess head-on.

Two Hours to Transformation

What surprised me most was how quickly it all came together. In just about two hours, the chaos that had been bothering me for months was completely transformed.

Here’s how I tackled it:

  1. Emptied every drawer. Yes, every last item. There’s something about starting with a blank slate that feels motivating.
  2. Sorted into piles. Keep, toss, donate. Expired products and broken hair tools? Out. Multiples of the same thing? Consolidated.
  3. Wiped down the drawers. Because if you’re going to organize, you might as well start with a clean surface.
  4. Used bins to create “zones.” Skincare in one bin, hair accessories in another, daily essentials front and center. Suddenly everything had a place—and a purpose.

When I slid the drawers back in, neatly arranged and clutter-free, I felt lighter. It’s amazing how such a small space can bring such a big sense of relief once it’s organized.

The Ripple Effect of Small Wins

What I love most about tackling a project like this is the ripple effect. Suddenly, I’m more motivated to keep other areas tidy. I start thinking about the pantry shelves, the closet floor, even the junk drawer in the kitchen.

Spring cleaning doesn’t have to mean scrubbing your entire house from top to bottom in one weekend. It can be as simple as reclaiming one drawer, one shelf, one corner. Each small win builds momentum and gives you that same little burst of accomplishment.

And honestly? Sometimes the smallest projects are the most satisfying. They’re quick, they’re doable, and they make a big impact on daily life.

Why Spring Cleaning Feels So Good

There’s a reason spring cleaning feels different than our everyday chores. It’s not just about wiping down surfaces—it’s about creating a sense of order and calm. It’s about opening the windows, letting in fresh air, and giving your home (and yourself) a chance to breathe again.

For me, those organized drawers are more than just neat storage. They’re a reminder that I can tackle the things I’ve been putting off. That a little time and effort can make a huge difference in how my home feels—and how I feel in it.

Your Turn

If you’ve got a space that’s been haunting you—whether it’s a bathroom drawer, a closet shelf, or even the trunk of your car—consider this your sign. Grab a few bins, put on some music, and give yourself a couple of hours to dive in. You’ll be amazed at how much lighter you feel when it’s done.

Spring cleaning doesn’t need to be about perfection. It’s about progress, and about creating a home that feels fresh and welcoming as we move into the new season. Sometimes all it takes is one small project to spark that momentum.

So here’s to clean drawers, fresh starts, and the simple joys of spring cleaning.
