Cozy Days, Bright Colors, and My Go-To Fall Outfits

This month was one of those where everything seemed to happen at once. Between being under the weather (what I thought was just a lingering cold turned out to be a sinus infection) and juggling a busy schedule, it felt like a whirlwind. But honestly? It was also festive, cozy, and full of the kind of autumn charm that makes me grateful to live in Vermont.

Fall in Woodstock has its own magic—the crisp air, the fiery leaves, the rhythm of local events, and the joy of welcoming friends who come to visit. Hosting houseguests has meant lots of “tour guide” days, and while it’s been busy, I’ve loved every second of it.

And of course, one of the highlights of fall is dressing for the season. Layers, textures, and colors that feel warm yet polished—it’s the best time of year for fashion. Even on the days I wasn’t feeling my best, pulling together an outfit I loved made a difference. Here are a few of my favorite looks from this month, all with that quintessential mix of comfort and style.

The Chic “Sweatsuit” Alternative

When you’re not feeling great but still want to look put together, it helps to have a formula outfit that’s comfortable yet polished. For me, that’s been my Betty Cardigan paired with easy trousers and clogs or sneakers.

I’ve had this cardigan for four years now (originally bought it when I was pregnant), and it remains one of my most-worn pieces. It’s cropped, which makes it versatile, but I sized up for a slightly roomier fit. The whole look feels like the chic cousin of a sweatsuit—effortless, cozy, but still intentional.

A Pop of Color for Crisp Days

My wardrobe leans neutral, but every now and then I crave something bold, especially when the skies start turning gray. Enter the Otis Jumper—a sweater whose color is so much more stunning in person than photos can capture. It’s soft, warm, and looks especially good against denim.

I’ve been pairing it with my off-white Le Crop Jeans (which are thicker than summer denim, so they work beautifully for fall). The combination feels bright and fresh, a nice shift from the sea of beige and camel that usually dominates this time of year.

Denim on Denim (with a Cozy Twist)

There’s something undeniably cool about denim on denim, especially when you layer in a soft knit. This outfit has been a repeat offender in my closet lately: the Max Shirt tucked into Brut Sexy Jeans, with the Amiel Jumper layered on top.

The sweater’s subtle details—on the hem, neckline, and cuffs—make it feel special, and it’s warm without being bulky. It’s the kind of outfit you can wear with clogs for a casual day or sneakers when you’re on the go. I love how versatile it feels.

Corduroy Love

Finally, no fall wardrobe feels complete without corduroy, and this season my go-to has been a corduroy shirt that doubles as a lightweight jacket. On days when the temperature is mild, it’s just the right amount of warmth. I’ve worn it endlessly with jeans and cotton trousers, and it always gives an outfit that cozy, slightly retro vibe.

Corduroy feels like the essence of fall—textured, earthy, and timeless—and this piece has been one of my best investments of the season.

Wrapping Up the Month

Looking back, October was a mix of cozy downtime, fun-filled weekends, and plenty of layers to keep up with Vermont’s ever-changing weather. Fashion in fall doesn’t just feel practical; it feels celebratory, like a reflection of the season’s richness.

Even with the sinus infection, playing dress-up with these outfits made me feel more like myself. And that’s the beauty of fall fashion—it doesn’t just keep you warm, it lifts your mood.

If you’re looking for inspiration for your own seasonal wardrobe, I can’t recommend these pieces enough. And for anyone curious about sizing or fit, my Sézane Shopping Guide has all the details you’ll need.

Here’s to crisp mornings, cozy sweaters, and the joy of dressing for fall.
